Baseball Field Dimensions
Pick a league and division to see the pitching distance, base path, home-to-second distance, mound height, and recommended fence distance — with a to-scale diamond that redraws for the selected dimensions.
Laying out a field
- Set home plate first. Drive a stake at the back point of home plate, then sight the foul lines out toward where you want the outfield fence corners.
- Measure to second base along the center line. Second base is the base path × √2 from home (127 ft 3⅜ in on a 90-foot field). Run a tape straight out through the pitching rubber to place it.
- Find first and third by triangulation. Each is one base path from home and one base path from second. Hook one tape at home and another at second, both set to the base-path length, and the point where they cross is the base.
- Set the rubber. Measure the pitching distance from the back point of home along the home-to-second line, then build or check the mound height for your division.
